EASE Online Training by AFMG North America, UTC-5, September 2021

Bruce C. Olson is the founding member of Olson Sound Design LLC, a consulting firm started in 1991 specializing in acoustical and technical systems design for Performing Arts Centers, Recording Studios, and Houses of Worship. Prior to this, he worked for 13 years in audio, video and acoustical systems design, installation, testing, and project management for AVC Systems, a systems contractor in Minneapolis, MN. After over 20 years of involvement with AFMG Technologies, he founded AFMG Services North America LLC in 2014 to support clients in North America. Mr. Olson provides advanced training as well as customer support worldwide for manufacturers, acoustical consultants, and audio contractors for the EASE/AURA/EARS design software and the EASERA/SysTune measurement software. As the Chairman of the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee (AESSC), and having served as the Chairman of the AES Working Group on Grounding and EMC Practices (SC-05-05), Vice-Chairman of the AES Technical Committee for EMC (AESTC-EMC), Governor of the AES, President of his local ASA chapter, Chairman of his local AES chapter, and member of various other AES standards groups, Bruce is actively involved in the latest technology in audio and acoustics. Mr. Olson continues as an active musician and is a member of the Ria Saxophone Quintet and the Bend in the River Big Band. He is a member of AES, ASA, IEEE, SMPTE, Syn-Aud-Con, and has been an invited speaker for sessions, workshops, classes and seminars for the AES, AIA, ASA, InfoComm, NAMM, NSCA, Syn-Aud-Con, and USITT.

Ana Jaramillo is an acoustical consultant with Olson Sound Design LLC and also works for AFMG Services North America LLC providing assistance with customer support and advanced training worldwide for manufacturers, acoustical consultants, and audio contractors for the EASE/AURA/EARS design software and the EASERA/SysTune measurement software. Prior to this, she worked full time as a university professor and researcher at Corporación Colegiatura Colombiana and Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano in Medellín, Colombia, and during that time she also worked as an acoustical consultant for projects ranging from auditoriums and classrooms to night life venues. Ana majored in Architecture at the National University of Colombia and continued to specialize in Architectural Acoustics at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where she received an MS degree. She also holds a doctoral degree in Architecture   Design Research from Virginia Tech where she investigated the relationship between mechanical noise and student achievement and was invited to join the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. She has authored the books “Acústica: La Ciencia del Sonido” and “PocketArchitecture: Architectural Acoustics”. In 2012 she received the Robert Bradford Newman Medal for contributions to architectural acoustics and in 2013 she received the Outstanding Doctoral Student recognition from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. Ms. Jaramillo has participated in international choir festivals and is currently a member of the Edina Chorale, as well as a member of their governing board. She is a member of AES, ASA, SBSE, BTES, Syn-Aud-Con, and has been a contributing and invited presenter at national and international conferences such as ICA, ASA, Internoise, AES, ARCC and SBSE.

A. Modules

To improve flexibility, we have organized the upcoming online EASE® training in a series of modules that can be configured in different ways to cover the topics needed by the attendee. See a description of each module below.

Introduction to EASE (PR001) - $200

This module covers an introduction to the software for new users, as well as an introduction to the class for those with experience. At the end of the class the participant will be able to create EASE models from Prototypes, combine several projects, and use advanced editing techniques, such as Objects.

Required for all participants

Building rooms in EASE® - $400

  a. Basic (EG101)

 This module is for EASE beginners, or those needing a refresher in room building. At the end of the class the participant will be able to create rooms using 3D Shapes, editing Prototypes, or from scratch.

Prerequisite: PR001.

  b. Advanced (EG201)

This module continues with more advanced room building. At the end of the class the participant will be able to build rooms from DXF/SKP import, and modify complex rooms.

Design and simulation of sound systems using EASE – $400

  a. Basic (SS101)

This module explores the uses of EASE for simulation of sound systems. At the end of the class the participant will be able to add sound sources similar to those used in sound system measurements, will know how to use the different file formats and loudspeaker types, and design sound systems assisted by EASE, obtaining simulation results such as SPL and STI maps.

Prerequisite: PR001 and EG201.

  b. Advanced (SS201)

This module continues with more advanced sound system simulation. At the end of the class the participant will be able to design a complex sound system using EASE, obtain mapping results with the AURA module, and create direct sound auralizations.

Advanced analysis of sound system responses in EASE (SS301) - $100

This module explores Precedence for the optimization of sound systems, and the analysis of reflectograms.

Prerequisite: SS201.

Design and simulation for room acoustics using EASE - $800

  a. Basic (RA101)

This module explores the uses of EASE for room acoustic simulation and analysis. At the end of the class the participant will be able to add sound sources similar to those used in acoustical measurements, add absorptive materials to rooms, optimize RT, add scattering coefficients, and obtain results for basic room acoustics parameters in Mapping and Probe.

Prerequisite: PR001 and EG201.

  b. Advanced (RA201)

This modules continues with more advanced simulation for room acoustics. At the end of the class the participant will be able to run Ray Tracing for reflection pattern analysis, and obtain Mapping results for advanced room acoustics parameters, as well as impulse responses for analysis and auralization.

EASE Auralization (RA301) - $200

This module explores Auralization in depth. At the end of the class the participant will be able to create auralizations using EASE and AURA, including binaural files, stereo and B-format files, as well as batch processing.

Prerequisite: RA201.

C. Class Methodology

The EASE Online Training will be taught using the Zoom platform. It is recommended that participants have an additional monitor connected to their computer, so they can follow what the instructor is doing on the screen. You also will want to have a mouse with a scroll wheel to allow moving around the model EASE and access the context menus. The classes are highly interactive and include some presentations and theory on general knowledge and software features. 

Documents with exercises and instructions will be provided before the class so that participants can start becoming familiar with the software.

All classes will have 2 instructors so questions can be answered and issues resolved as they arise and so that participants do not lose track of the exercises. A certificate of completion from AFMG will be provided at the end of the class.

An evaluation software license, including all modules will be provided so participants can explore the software fully, even if they own a simpler version, or don’t own the software yet. 

D. Discounts

  • Purchases of more than $1000, including large packages or companies registering more than one person at the same time get a 10% discount.
  • A discount of 10% is offered on purchased software during the 30 days following the class.
  • Discounts do not accumulate.
